Nutrition and Lifestyle Changes for Improved Therapy Outcomes

Presented by Vicki Steine, DSc, LCSW on 08-09-2019 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

Psychotherapy typically looks at past and present life experiences and situations to diagnose and treat every mental illness from anxiety to schizophrenia. We rely heavily on self-report from our clients and diagnose them based on criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

However, we now know the body and the brain are connected and both impact the other. We know that what appears as a mental health issue may in fact be an issue with the client’s gut function, inflammation, blood sugar regulation, hormones, vitamin deficiencies, and more.

In this 2-hour continuing education web conference, Vicki Steine, DSc, LCSW will discuss the connection between the brain and the body. She will explain how the internal and external environment can impact brain health and mental health throughout one’s lifetime.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Explain functional medicine.
  2. Describe the gut-brain connection.
  3. List specific vitamin deficiencies and their impact on mental health.
  4. Describe chronic inflammation and its impact on mental health.
  5. Analyze the Standard American Diet and its effect on mental health outcomes.
