I specialize in EMDR (highly effective for healing trauma), Mindfulness-Based Somatic Therapy (emotionssensations in the body in the present moment), and Parts Work influenced by Internal Family Systems (exploring the feelingsneeds of the many parts within us). I am passionate about healing trauma. I see counseling as a practice of assisted self-discovery. Awareness of the present moment, attention to emotions and sensations in the body, and mindful witnessing of thoughts are at the heart of my practice. My approach to counseling is compassionate and non-judgmental, and I provide a safe space for you to turn toward your experience rather than away. A whole body-mind approach is much more effective than talk therapy alone.
I also use a variety of other forms of psychotherapy including Hakomi, Contemplative, Person-Centered (Rogerian), Gestalt, Existential, and Cognitive-Behavioral. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling, I am a National Certified Counselor with the NBCC, and I am Licensed with the North Carolina Board for Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors.
