My Approach to Helping

When providing therapy, I take a flexible approach and adapt treatment to fit my patients’ needs. My training encompasses an array of methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), trauma-focused CBT, parent-child care, solution-focused therapy, family systems therapy, and career counseling. My clients include individuals, couples, and families, and I am happy to discuss an approach that will work best for you.

More Info About My Practice

Jennifer Flood is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She specializes in helping individuals reach their goals whether it be optimizing a relationship, a career change, managing grief, or just feeling better overall. Jennifer also works with couples and families, and she is happy to adjust her therapeutic approach to match the needs of her clients and meet them wherever they are at.

In addition to providing direct therapy, Jen supervises a team of licensed and pre-licensed clinicians. Jen takes pride in supporting a diverse team that represents the community we serve. Jen also provides consulting to therapists seeking to start or grow their private practice.

Before starting her own practice, Jennifer worked as a clinical director for a community-based healthcare service provider, where she oversaw multiple programs providing mental health services to youth and young adults. She also worked in higher education, counseling undergraduate and graduate students focusing on managing life transitions, navigating relationship difficulties, and providing career counseling. Jennifer also spent almost two years managing an outpatient program that focused on working with clients diagnosed with autism and other related behavioral disorders like attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD). In addition, Jennifer has expertise working with individuals facing addiction, anger issues, domestic violence, and trauma.

Jennifer earned her bachelor's degree in clinical nutrition from the University of California, Davis, and has master’s degrees in counseling psychology from the University of San Francisco and forensic psychology from California State University, San Francisco.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

An ideal client would be someone who is empathetic toward others and compassionate toward themselves and is open, coachable, and capable of accepting feedback. The process of therapy takes time and energy so having someone start the process of therapy with an open mind and a willingness to put in the work to see the process through is also helpful. Jennifer also offers clinical supervision to associates registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (AMFT, PCC, ASW). She also provides consulting to therapists seeking to start or grow their private practice.

As therapy is a very personal and impactful process, I would be happy to do a phone consultation to discuss the your specific needs and if the services that could be provided as a result of my life and work experience, education, and personality would be a good fit.
