Integrating Mind, Body, and Genetics in Psychotherapy

Presented by John Arden, PhD, ABPP on 01-11-2019 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

Significant change is occurring in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and depression and how we conceptualize mental health problems and their solutions. Therapists in the 21st century will by necessity become more like healthcare workers in order to address and resolve adverse mind-body-gene interactions.

In this two-hour continuing education web conference, Dr. John Arden will discuss an integrative model for understanding how the body affects the mind. Dr. Arden will explain how the immune system, diet, brain structure, and even gut bacteria can all affect mental health.

Dr. Arden will synthesize the substantial literature on psychoneuroimmunology and epigenetics combined with the neuroscience of emotional, interpersonal, and cognitive dynamics. Dr. Arden will apply this literature to psychotherapeutic approaches to offer an integrated vision of psychotherapy.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Analyze the relationship between physical health and mental health.
  2. Discuss the interaction between the immune system, genes, brain dynamics, and mental health.
  3. Explain how genes can be expressed or suppressed.
  4. Describe how autoimmune disorders contribute to depression, anxiety, and cognitive problems.
