Dusty Miller, EdD, Presents ‘Addictions, Compulsions, and Self-Sabotage’

Dear members and visitors to GoodTherapy.org,

Today the GoodTherapy.org team and many members enjoyed the third event in our fall teleconference series, “Addictions, Compulsions, and Self-Sabotage: A Multilevel Approach to Trauma’s Legacy,” presented by Dusty Miller, EdD. Big thank you extended to Dusty for presenting on her approach to helping people with trauma. This event is available with 1.5 CE credits for therapists.

Dusty Miller, EdD, is a psychologist, consultant, and writer. She is the director of the ATRIUM institute in Belchertown, Massachusetts. She is the author of the pioneering book for therapists and consumers on self-harm and trauma, Women Who Hurt Themselves (1994; 10th anniversary edition, 2005). Miller’s other books include: Addictions and Trauma Recovery: Healing the Body, Mind and Spirit (2001, co-authored with Dr. Laurie Guidry); Your Surviving Spirit: A Workbook of Spiritual Resources for Coping with Trauma (2003); Stop Running From Love: 3 Steps to Overcoming Emotional Distancing & Fear of Intimacy (2008); and numerous journal articles on addictions and trauma, including featured articles in Psychiatric Quarterly and Psychotherapy Networker.

Miller’s approach to addictions, compulsions, and self-sabotage has been successfully implemented in a variety of settings, including community centers, hospitals, outpatient clinics, correctional systems, and private practice. She provides training in the United States and Canada in trauma and addiction programs. Her presentations have been hosted by the Hazelden Foundation, the Renfrew Center Foundation conferences, the annual Psychotherapy Networker Symposium, the New England Institute for Learning Seminars (Cape Cod and Santa Fe), and Leading Edge seminars.

    I think this training would benefit everyone. the books listed are the type of books i would read. I would be interested in knowing where I could find these books.

    You can try looking in your local library for these books or online. It’s great that Dr. Miller provides training to different areas. You different approach, i think, would make a difference.
