My Approach to Helping
Hello, my name is Heather Hernandez Enciso (pronouns: she/her), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am passionate about demystifying mental health stigma by educating and empowering individuals. I utilize a strengths-based approach and help clients process how the intersectionality of their identity impacts them.
I have over 10 years of experience in mental health, from working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital to providing outpatient community mental health. Additionally, I’ve worked with patients as an emergency department medical social worker and specialize in LGBTIQ+ affirming therapeutic services. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, issues related to gender, sexual and racial identity, and domestic and intimate partner violence.
I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, seeking safety, motivational interviewing, trauma recovery, and empowerment (TREM), harm reduction, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), solution-focused, and positive psychology interventions. I believe in the collaborative process with my clients, and I use a humanistic and client-centered approach in building a therapeutic alliance.
Therapy is meant to be client-centered and evolves based on the client’s needs and priorities. I understand how mental health stigma prevents individuals from accessing counseling. However, allowing oneself permission to get support, can be a healing, exhilarating, and empowering process. I am interested in joining you on your therapeutic journey towards self-actualization
