You would hope that some simple acts of giving are just that: simple acts of giving. But when you look into what happens behind the scenes, you find out that the story is much more complicated.
NPR’s Radiolab team recently devoted an entire episode to blood. They talked about fake blood that shows up in movies, a time in human history when blood (and not your brain!) was thought to contain your fundamental personality characteristics and also an investigation into what happens after you give blood at a blood bank.
A fundamental goal of our Initiative is to think about not just how it feels for YOU to give, but what is the ultimate IMPACT of that giving. If the story about what happens behind the scenes at blood banks is any indication, this quest to help others may not be as straightforward as it seems at first.
