GoodTherapy.org Featured on Private Practice Startup Podcast

Microphone and pop filter in recording studioGoodTherapy.org was recently featured on a podcast by the Private Practice Startup, a project of K2 Visionaries led by Kate Campbell, PhD, LMFT and Katie Lemieux, LMFT. Campbell and Lemieux spoke with Dave Ake, GoodTherapy.org Editorial Director, for 5 Ways to Emotionally Connect with Your Ideal Clients, episode 21 of the Private Practice Startup podcast.

K2 Visionaries offers various professional development services to mental health professionals including business consulting, team building workshops, networking events, licensure supervision, and more. The Private Practice Startup is a hub for mental health professionals to access information and resources related to marketing their practice. Blog articles focus on search engine optimization for therapists, building a professional image, and attracting people seeking therapy online.

Dave Ake joined Campbell and Lemieux to relate to therapists the importance of making an emotional connection with people visiting your profile. Someone seeking therapy may scroll through dozens of therapist profiles, so anyone listing their practice online needs to stand out in some way. “What differentiates you from others is the emotional connection you may be able to create for a potential client,” advises Ake. “That helps you increase client referrals and may contribute to more successful outcomes in your therapy practice, because people are selecting a therapist they connect to a bit better.”

Lemieux, Campbell, and Ake went on to discuss key elements of developing a successful online presence:

  • Choosing appropriate, appealing photos
  • Using language that does not alienate potential clients
  • De-emphasizing the business relationship between therapist and someone in therapy
  • Answering optional questions on your profile to develop your online narrative
  • Proofread, proofread, proofread!
