My Approach to Helping

As men, we all have our own, often private struggles, and desire to be accepted as we are. On a daily basis, I approach my job as a counselor for men with this in mind. I make every effort to create a space where men can share parts of themselves that they are afraid to show, in order to experience a deeper sense of love and acceptance. I am deeply committed and passionate about this work, and bring my own humanity and honesty to each relationship in order to facilitate understanding and growth.

More Info About My Practice

I believe that finding the right male therapist for you is extremely important, and, at times, a bit stressful. I make every effort to make this process as easeful as possible. I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation, where you can get a sense of me and I can understand a bit of what you are seeking. If we decide to make an initial counseling appointment, then we can take some time (usually 3-5 sessions) to decide if we are a good fit for each other. My fee for individual therapy is $150 and for couples counseling is $160. I am not on any insurance panels at this time, but can offer you a statement that you can send to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I believe that choosing a therapist for men is the beginning of the process of therapy, so take your time. Finding someone who "feels" right is of the utmost importance, because this is your unconscious' way of telling you that this is a person it can open and deepend with. In addition, follow any other seemingly strange or random thoughts/desires of what you would want for a therapist even if you don't know exactly why. (i.e. "I want a male therapist", "an older therapist", etc.). Also, choose someone who has some knowledge and experience with the issues you are dealing with. Finally, there are the logistics, fee, location, office. Those are really very specific considerations for each person. I believe you want a therapist who will think and talk with you openly about all these considerations and help you make the best choice.

What Makes up a Problem?

A problem is a signpost. It communicates that something needs your attention. We can fixate on a problem, but it is helpful to follow the problem to its base level. When we go deeper, following the thoughts and feelings especially, a problem can reveal unconscious beliefs and, once discovered and explored, the original problem often can drift away. This may take time but the more we can take the path that the problem shows us, we begin to see patterns that enable us to free ourselves.
