ADHD Treatment and Symptom Management

Presented by Leo D. DeBroeck, MS, LMHC, CMHS, MHP on 05-28-2021 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

Over 20 million people in the United States have attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The methods of diagnosing and understanding ADHD have changed dramatically over the past 20 years with new research and technology, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the brain. ADHD is an ever-growing field of study, and important updates based on the latest research require mental health professionals to evaluate and update the tools they use with clients for the management of ADHD symptoms.

In this 2-hour continuing education webinar for mental health professionals, Leo D. DeBroeck, MS, LMHC, CMHS, MHP will review the current areas of research and theories of ADHD in children and adults including treatment and symptom management as well as how the new research has changed treatment models for ADHD. He will discuss interventions using a cognitive-behavioral theoretical background and break down the process for treatment/symptom management into obtainable steps.

In addition, Mr. DeBroeck will discuss complications and considerations of using accommodations in school settings. He will provide an overview of the most common questions caregivers and educators have about ADHD’s symptom management to provide mental health clinicians with prepared responses to those questions in digestible and simple terms.

The webinar will include time for questions and answers. Attendees can expect to:

  • Review treatment models and interventions for ADHD in adults and children.
  • Develop skills to be able to engage in psychoeducation with families and teachers of children with ADHD.
  • Explore common secondary impacts of ADHD and their impacts on functioning.

This introductory web conference is designed to help mental health professionals:

  1. List the six steps for ADHD treatment management.
  2. Use behavior charts in the management of ADHD symptoms effectively.
  3. Explain the importance of psychoeducation for clients in the treatment of ADHD.
  4. Explain the importance of referring for ADHD medication management.
  5. Describe at least three of the co-occurring symptoms of ADHD.
